Weight.. Holup... Please don't let me Blow up...

It's been 2 years & 9 months since I decided to lose weight (forreal this time). I'm one of those people who has pretty much struggled with my weight all my life. Part lazy... Part I just really love food. I grew up in a home where the words diet & exercise was something that "white people did" I ate whatever my mom cooked whether I liked it or not annnndddd, I had to clean my plate. Of course with age comes wisdom and, as an adult, I decided I could no longer be apart of #teamfatandohwell. So, one cold day in March of 2010, I literally woke up & said to myself... "Oh nah, I cannot, will not,, won't not go into my 30's this big." Sooooooooo, I got serious (forreal this time)

One of the things that was so helpful, initially, was that I had a partner that was as motivated as I was. That's not to say I haven't had that in the past but, it was different because we lived together. We motivated each other to stay the course. We had similar diets, which made planning meals less daunting and, we went to the gym together for the most part. That partnership was especially important in the beginning.

Another advantage I had this time around was access to a free gym. In addition to my membership at Planet Fitness, I had the luxury of having a gym in my job's bldg. The bonus of that was being able to work out twice a day Mon - Fri. You talk about siced!!! (This was about 60 days in when I started going to the gym at my job regularly plus working out in the evenings.)   The gym used to be dungeon of despair. I hated going to the gym. Now!!! The gym is a place of solace & I had/have it all to myself on most days. It didn't take long at all to see results. At this point, the weight started to literally fall off.

That was the beginning.  A lot has happened in those two years & nine months. The way I began is nowhere near where I am now. However, I lost a cool 80 pounds give or take a few. I've also managed to keep most of the weight off somehow.  Changing my lifestyle was hard. Do you kno how hard it is to choose "Total" instead of eggs, breakfast meat, pancakes, grits, & potatoes??? Or, Choosing a lean meat, broccoli w/o cheese, & brown rice, over smothered chicken w/mash potatoes & cornbread??? Water w/lemon instead of soda. Nah, yall prolly don't. But I do & I stillllllllllll struggle with this to some degree lol

Today, I am somewhat comfortable with my diet and exercise regimen.   As a matter of fact I really don't diet anymore. (Unless I wanna fit into my bathing suit). I'm just a lil more aware of the choices I make. For instance, I hardly ever drink soda and juice. At first, I quit drinking alcohol that lasted about a year or less. I'll prolly quit again in 2013.  I still go to the gym almost everyday (which is more for maintenance). More importantly, my journey is not over.  I'm still a work in progress. My weight loss goals have evolved some since the beginning.  The scale is a lil bit in my favor these days and for the most part I believe I can manage this size for the rest of my life. I prolly could stand to lose 10 lbs maybe 15 depending on my mood but f-it. I like the way my clothes fit, my butt grew a couple of modest inches, & physically, I'm in the best shape of my life.

Side note: I am currently seeking a cure for a sweet tooth. It's something about being a woman in her 30's & sweets. When I find it & gain the rights to it, I'll be sure to pass it along.

The Pretender???

Not this man bashing, bitter joant post again!!! Sorry not this time... But since writing that blog, I can't help but refer back to the post every chance I get... For instance, yesterday, Jennifer Hudson & Neyo's song "Act Like a Woman, Think Like a Man" came on the radio. Now I've heard this song a million times but, for some reason Neyo's verse stuck out... Here it is
Now I'm gonna keep it realer with you now that I've ever been We should have never been, girl we was better friends You didn't have to tell me what, where, why and when Ooh why I didn't need it, Cause you wasn't my girlfriend, we had a good thing You would come by and see me, ooh give me that good thang Then after we were finished, You go your way, I go my way, it was whatever Tell me what in the hell makes us Think this wanna gonna be better And now I'm telling you lies, All because I hate to see the tears in your eyes Of course I want my cake, and eat it too, I'm a guy And of course, you don't understand, But you would if you thought like a man in love
Does this sound like a "pretender" to you or am I reaching???

For the Shame

On Thursday June 21, 2012, Marygold's hosted a tribute show in honor of Chuck Brown.  The bands said to perform were:
Changing Phaces
Project 360
Steel Band
What
Backyard
I had planned on trying to catch every band but, I got there late... I was jy looking forward to this show. BYB & What for only $10!!! Unheard of... I'm not fooling with their poddy on July 3rd so this was perfect...
Arriving at a quarter till one, I was really hoping for ONCE a promoter would be honest & I would avoid any swindleage.  To my surprise, there really wasn't a line... (the flyer said no line no wait) I walked straight in & really paid $10!!! So I'm jy ready to poddy & then I got a bomb dropped on me... "BACKYARD IS NOT PLAYING"  Yup, I was blown... I woulda felt a lil better about the situation if they had played earlier but, the band pulled out altogether... Don't ask me why? I have a theory tho... I'll get to that later ..
So now I'm stuck with the What Band... You're prolly thinking I'm bouta go in on What but, I'm not... I was pretty pleased with their show & was kinda disappointed it ended so soon. I thought they did a decent job when they covered Chuck Brown.  Plus, they hit crystal skate....
Marygold's has to get their bar together... It's gotten to a point where I refuse to buy a drink at their bar... It's rather fluke.  How can your bartenders make money if you're so tight with your bar regulations??? Marygold's would be worth the trip if they had a better bar...
Some other sh*t I didn't like:
I heard project 360 pulled out too, like yall can afford to do that lol... I mean maybe you can... Nah you can't lol.  I'm sure they had a good reason... >_>
I also heard Steel Band didn't kno the words to run joe... This was like one of CB's biggest hits... WTF, this was supposedly a tribute show.  Forgetting/not knowing the words is just unacceptable IMHO.
BYB, BYB, BYB... Iont wanna throw my fav band under the bus, but them not showing up just doesn't sit well with me... I don't know the actual reason but, I kno they have a big show coming up with What @ Ibiza.  Tribute show or not, I could see the disadvantage of playing with What before then.  Not to mention none of the bands performing were paid.cuz it was for Charity & maybe their management didn't feel like it was worth it...  However, as a fan none of this even matters to me... No shows are never a good look...
And on that note, I'm out....

So Umm Yeah

Imma try and make this quick cuz I can get a lil wordy at times Anywho, I've been neglecting my blog for my pursuit of higher education but, that hasn't stop me from hitting a few spots here and there...I have witnessed some really good events in the past month or so... FF @ Layla on March 17th,  Suttle at 12 Lounge on March 25th, Da Mixx at Club Elite on the 23rd I think... This Omega Psi Phi function at the Sheraton on March 30th, BYB & JYB at Marygold's on March 8th, the RE vs BYB joant,  Lotus on the 6th, UIKL Kickoff Shindig on Sunday, & BYB @ the Tradewinds last night plus some lil odd & end spots... So far I've enjoyed everything I've been apart of this spring....

Let me just mention, as far as gogo is concerned, these are some sure bet bands you must poddy with this spring/summer

  • Backyard
  • Junkyard
  • Da Mixx
  • Familiar Faces
  • Black Alley
Yeah I left a few popular bands off the list & it's not because they don't crank... When Im really trying to get my poddy on these are the bands to set fire to my feet in a major way

I'm looking forward to this spring/summers events... It's so many options... Plus it's cookout season, & yeah I will be covering those too so your food better be plentiful & on point...

s/n In a perfect world, Ibiza would be the top club in the city for gogos... Currently, I'm on strike against Ibiza because I've had too many bad experiences there to fade it anymore... It sucks cuz Big G's bday function is there this year & this RE, Suttle & Black Alley function is too    Yall should go tho & tell me about it...

& on that note... I'm out... Catch me in the wind!!!

Mary Should Be Ashamed of Herself!!

So last night I went with the girls to Proud Mary's in Ft. Washington, MD.  This place sits along the Potomac River at the Ft Washington Marina.  I have heard good things about this place so, like everyone else in my group, I was looking forward to what they had to offer.

So umm yeah in true fashion we were late... The Bff & I can never seem to get anywhere on time... smh... Our reservation was at 7:30 & since we got there at 8:05 they gave our table away... Cool.. We ended up being seated at 8:38.  Proud Mary's is a cute restaurant... The tables are dressed nicely with glass tops and appropriate dinnerware.. They have what looks like, a large party area.. or the area where large groups of ppl are seated.  On the other side of that, is what seems to be more of an lounge area and on the other side of that was an outside seating area.

Our waitress starts us off with glasses of water.  My water was nice & cold; esp, since my glass was full of ice cubes.  After we were situated at the table we began to order appetizers & drinks. One of my girlfriends suggested we try the Sangria's... She has good taste in those type of drinks, so yeah I was jy eager to try it... Gate!!!! Off break the waitress tells us they don't have any sangria's & basically gave us the short form as to why they didn't have em... Then she says well I could ask the bartender to make it but, we would just have to wait awhile till the fruit marinated in the wine... Gate!!! They don't have any wine... So we just order their regular specialty cocktails...  I had a peach margarita that tasted awesome to say the least...  We all were pleased with our secondary choice, except for my Sangria friend who had to settle for a coke ... In the meantime the appetizer's finally came anddddddd something was wrong with the wings... (I think they didn't buffalo them) so they were sent back... the spinach dip was just ok... It didn't really dip right to me but I ate some anyway lol... Now it's 9:30 & they're just taking our orders for real food... So we're chillin, talking, & stuff & the waitress comes back & says, "NO CRABCAKES"... The F*ck!!! How does a SEAFOOD restaurant run outta crabcakes... So now I don't even know WHAT I want... If I wasn't so freaking hungry I wouldn't have ordered anything... I ended up getting the shrimp & just called it a day... Somewhere between 10:15 & 10:30 they bring us our food... & guess what my order was wrong... My shrimp came out fried instead of broiled... I didn't complain tho.. The manager looked out for the bff & I since our food came out so late & our waitress gave us some free cornbread muffins... I ate like 1/3rd of the corn muffin cuz I'm supposed to be on a diet but, it was good... In no way am I food critic but, I do like to eat... The main things that annoyed me about my plate were 1) my broccoli was not fresh, it was frozen & 2) some of my shrimp hadn't been deveined... That made me wonder were my shrimp even fresh??? I don't think a shrimp dish should be priced at $19.99 if the quality of the food is sub par... That was just my plate tho... My friends really enjoyed their food... & despite my nitpicking mine wasn't all that bad either...

Hanging with the chicas is always a good time; however, I prolly won't go to Proud Mary's anymore... I jy wanna give it another chance tho... Mostly, to try out the crabcakes... I mean if they're soldout they must've been good right??? I just can't fade the drive just for a peach margarita and cornbread muffins...

Sidenote: The DJ was jy crankin...

Rock Out w/your Breast Out!?!?!?

So uhhhhh On Thursday, March 1, 2012, I went to a place called the Hangar's Club... It's a strip club located in Clinton, MD a suburb of DC.... Aight so, one of my friends & my hairdresser when I can afford it, Tiffany Johnson, had a bday and celebrated here... It was no secret that we were going to see the ladies... I've been dipping in & out of strip clubs with the boo for a lil while now so I wasn't really turned off by seeing women... Let's face it... going to see the male strippers is gay... & by that I mean it's wack, boring, blah etc... Before gay ppl start coming for me, gay is just a word I use to describe things that are fluke... Anyway, after sitting around for what seemed to be an eternity, the first stripper finally comes out... She's pretty good... As a matter of fact I was rather impressed by most of the female dancers... Ive been to hole in the wall strip clubs before & usually the females are pretty straggly...

Here's where it gets interesting... Let me just describe her... bout 5'5", brownskin, neck length brown dreads, about a full B/ small C in booby size, lil butt butt joant... she had on a sports bra & some too big, I guess stripper pants, & I think tennis shoes... A boyish version of a female dancer... That's the best way I can describe it without being disrespectful... I wanted to laugh as a matter of fact I think I did... but not to poke fun but more so as in one of those funny WTF moments... I was just shocked... I shouldn't have been but I was lol  They had about 4 or 5 maybe more (we left early) boyish female dancers... This one joant in particular had boobs like my size which really caught me off guard... Again I laughed cuz I was just like YOUNG!!! They really do this LOL... Of course the joant with the biggest boobs did the most in her routine... lol I would go into detail but I'll spare the squares... What's funny is I'm pretty sure I was looked at as a square... I had on regular clothes & was chilling... You could tell I was a lil uncomfortable & that was mainly because I was surrounded by so many lesbians... Not that it bothered me but it was just new... Anyway...

Would I go again??? Yup lol  The real question is who would I go with lol... Thing is I was entertained & Im all full quality entertainment... Next time I might even tip lol

Shoutout to Tiffany hairstylist at Chyna Pink Salon...

Let's Get This Party Started

Finally, my first blog post!!!! I am using The Tangi Chronicles Blog as a way to supplement my reviews. The post on my blog with sometimes incorporate some details I may have forgotten in my vlogs or an unrecorded review.  You may also see some topics that I haven't covered in my vlogs... Plus, I jy annoyed with so many people complaining about my gum chewing... So yeah... here complainers, there's no gum chewing on print...If you didn't already know... my reviews are unscripted... I try to be fair most of the time & give certain ppl involved the benefit of the doubt, however; it's nothing like good old fashion honesty behind the wall of the internet!!! So now that I've gotten all the way together... Let's start the show :-)
